time passes, never healing, only dulling
the sharpness of the knifelike pain
shards left of a life that once stood tall
they say you forget the sound of a voice
when it has been silenced forever by death
but i have not forgotten, will never forget
the joyful softness of your word melodies
the way your laugh could light my world


ten years after and in my mind i still
hear you call my name in that special way
that caused my heart to skip a beat
i don’t need a picture to remember
delicate beauty of your face and form
don’t need a physical touch to recall
how your fingers tenderly traced my face
the ecstasy we shared in the night lives on


i can still smell the scent of your perfume
and taste the sweetness of your ripe lips
the date comes and goes every september
tributes are penned, ceremonies planned
once a year the whole country grieves
all year i remember and i pen tributes
to you within my heart every passing day
history is very personal to you and to me
