In a year full of turmoil and despair,
Can’t help but feel, life’s been a little unfair.
Grief is difficult to overcome,
Especially when taking gut punches from everyone.
Conversations taken out of context,
Honest words can’t seem to mend or fix.
One person’s disillusion,
Spirals all into mass confusion.
Greed is blinding,
Even soul damaging.
It is best to take a step back,
Determine what is fact.
For what we recall of a situation,
May simply be our own misinterpretation.
Reflecting on the fractures,
The mounting tension became the final crack.
Now watching a family unravel,
Due to mistrust and denial.
A broken family argues and accuses,
Exposing the struggles of resentment, deceit, and old abuses.
A healthy family knows when to show empathy without judgement,
Accept sympathy without feeling weak,
When to stay quiet, and when to speak.
Blood may connect us,
But it does not always bind us,
It takes more than blood to be family,
It’s the bonds we choose to nurture intentionally.
I so relate. My family, my wife's family, and our extended families all have factions that are disconnected and at odds. Despite this kind of pain and frustration being somewhat universal, I've found it is always surprisingly isolating. You can love them, forgive them, want the best for them, but often you just have to move on without them. A broken family is like a shattered mirror. Sometimes it's better to leave the pieces broken, than hurt yourself trying to put them back together. Thanks for such an honest sharing. I'll read this to my wife. Kind regards. rlc
