... wanting sleep.

Insomniac

Walls of night surround me
crowding hard and closing in.
Tonight’s sleep,
yet another failed marathon,
alone except for the clocks
who break the silence.
The stage is set, the actors here,
but a heart’s reel of film
shows only reruns on a lonely night.
Maddening clocks! All-knowing,
counting out beats,
each slow as a tear,
loud, yet oddly a whisper.
I’m sorry to intrude,
but I'm awed by their blending
of my insomniac sadness
into their nightly concerts.
The ticking clock is
both a friend and foe.
No way to forget,
so afraid I might,
and feeling so alone.

I know that of which you write, CJ. I abhor insomnia. Thank God it doesn't happen too often. Love and peace,

Hi CJ...most insomniacs will relate to this. My humble suggestion to all insomniacs is to invest in some Sleepy-time tea...then get on your knees and ask God to send His army of guardian angels to guard you, your windows and your doors...and ask Him to allow you to have a pleasant night's sleep filled with lovely adventures! It works for me... :) Having said all that, I think you've captured the insomniac amazingly well!

God Bless
Love, Lena

You did well to bring out the sadness of a person who suffers. Truly a fine poem. Victor

Another wonderful surreal write. Your poetry is so expressive in feelings, and very descriptive. I like them a lot!
