hallows and hollows shroud and cloak
yet in just one note you’d have me shriek
you obviously care not for mild nor meek
knowing of course, I’m neither of these
 
for born within me is a lethal  weapon
kept on its guard behind locked bars
I’ve seen it slice, severe its razor
and it has carved before 
 
fueled by desires, I zone the victim
strong urges will lead me into
bumpy situations
cornered and motivated
I can retreat or attack 
 
so I suggest you take a step back
 
while I polish and sharpen
my carving knives
squinting until I see the
gleam of your eyes
 
I hollow the insides
right down to the core
scrape out the guts
then drill on the orange
 
surgical precision
each delicate cut
I’m gentle you see
it doesn’t hurt much
 
scraps on the compost
feeding the birds
candles on the inside
warming the innards
 
hallowed it be this piece of art
is it cruel?… to slice and dart?
pulling the hood up from my cape
it’s a shriek to the night
and a quick escape
