Poem Artwork

You lie beside me, sleeping peacefully

As I watch the shadows cast upon

Moonlit bedroom walls.

This place – yours – mine –

No longer ours – wreaks havoc

With my memory.

Gently, I place my hand upon

Your naked chest.  With annoyance,

You sigh at the intrusion.

Time – space – distance lie between

Us, and perhaps now, I understand the

Futility of trying to recapture what is lost.

Dawn - You got everything right in this poem the setting,

shadows cast upon

Moonlit bedroom walls.

the atmosphere,

This place – yours – mine –

No longer ours –

the action,

Gently, I place my hand upon

Your naked chest. With annoyance,

You sigh at the intrusion.

and the conclusion,

Time – space – distance lie between

Us,

All create a feeling of loss, regret and realization that nothing can change it. - David

A small but beautiful window opens here and we catch a glimpse of so much, not just what there is to view but what there is to feel. Dawn, I love this piece.

Dawn,

One is never too old for that warm touch in the middle of the night or to love the security that gentle touch brings. Your poem is so sad and the thought so empty. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

Dawn this is so real. It captures so well the sad futility that some of us feel when the years have passed and the passion of love has fisseled.

A sad experience, Dawn, beautifully written. Though it pains me,
I admire that second stanza. I like to think this is an exercise;
if not, I have to wonder what's wrong with the guy with the naked
chest. I should know better, but I have always felt (or hoped) that genuine love was its own feedback. This guy proves me wrong. -gene.

There is an old cliché that one can be lonely amidst a crowd. I think I can expand on that and say there is no loneliness greater than when a wall comes between a man and a woman who have been in a loving relationship. It hurts, and one does finally realize how futile trying to hold on becomes. Good write, Dawn. (Hope you had a wonderful vacation.
