I am always reminded of my Godfather
Every time I dip teabags in water
It’s the little things
He showed me how to wrap the teabag
Around my spoon instead of squeezing
It with my fingers and burning them.
It’s the little things
He was my playmate and would bend
Over and entwine the fingers of his massive
Hands and make a swing for me. I would
Sit while he swung me between his legs.
It’s the little things
He reminds me of the time my parents had
Company and I gave the men drinks of water
From the toilet bowl
It’s the little things
Even though he was tall and very muscular
He got teased by the guys every time he would
Call my godmother “honey bun”, not a macho
Thing to do back then. He didn’t care
It’s the little things.
Such a gentle man; always with a smile and
Soft tone, and there to lend a helping hand.
Why didn’t my mother teach me how to wrap
The teabags around my spoon?
I guess certain little things are reserved for certain
People.
This touchs the heart in such a delightful way. Wonderful write!
