I’m a Hypocrite!

No wonder we have trouble knowing truth from fiction.

I’m a Hypocrite!

Why is it so hard for us to trust in our fellowman?
We seem to question everything that we don’t understand.
I remember a time I trusted everyone and what was said to me.
But now I too question everybody and everything I cannot see.

For me it started with the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy and Santa too.
I trusted and believed in them when my parents said it was true .
For so long I believed in them, never questioned they were real.
So you can’t imagine how shocked I was or how badly I would feel.

I know they only told me things to make it a special day.
Not realizing the pain they caused when it all went away.
I swore then my children would never here those lies.
But I must have forgotten that because time surely flies.

So when my children were little, I did the very same thing.
Telling them of Santa, the Fairy, the Bunny, & all the things they bring.
Yes, I am a hypocrite and I’m not a bit proud to be
But when I remember their tears of joy, I’m now okay with me.

...to hold the innocence of child...is never to be a hypocrite...but to dream...something seemingly harder to find...even in our sleep.
I will hold that innoncence...for it is where I began my journey...

Bonnie,

I concur with Jackie (below): all in innocence.

No hypocrite, you, Bonnie! We develope a special time for children until they are ready to understand the True Meaning of Easter, Christmas, The Guardian Angle. Never look at these as lies...but a prelude to believing. Enjoyable 'wonderings' of a parent, your poem delightful!

Bonnie,
Enjoyed this poem, but don't be hard on yourself. The Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Santa , gives our children a fantasy world against the sometimes cruelness of the real world.

Blessings to you,
~Linda

We sometimes come down on ourselves too hard and expand things out of proportion.

The Wholly Book of Genesis by Jay Dubya

The Wholly Book of Genesis is a humorous satire on the first book of the Old Testament where the Story of Creation, the building of Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are thoroughly spoofed and broadsided.
