At the bottom of this glass - stark reality-
Liquid fire is all I see.
Burning it's way down - claiming my soul-
All I need is this bottle I hold.
Images swirling - my life flies past-
As I reach for another cold glass.
Nite is falling on my window ceil-
This bottle I clutch is all that's real.
Hands shaking as I pour one more-
Dignity and self-esteem go out the door.
Demons - they lurk at the bottom of the glass-
Dredging up sins from the past.
Deep in this bottle I try to hide-
It don't stop the agony I feel inside!
Oh , how I need this or I will die-
The alcohol consumes me and I start to cry.
One more glass- I feel no pain-
This is all keeping me sane.
My bottle and me - Darn! There goes the phone-
Why can't everybody just leave me alone?
Darkness flooding - engulfing my soul-
The alcohol numbing me from the cold.
How do I fight them? How do I get past-
The demons lurking in the bottom of the glass?
This work describes so many people I've known through the years...at one time including me. I saw so many wasyed lifes if we could just break through just one ost soul each how much happier this world vould be. I like it Linda though it toucjhes raw nerve.
A very relevant message for alot of people.
Nice job.

Linda good write. I know those demons all to well. I have kept their company for many many long nights. However there is an escape but sometimes finding it can be very costly.

Another great one Linda. I know first hand of those demons. Thank god that I had the strength to get away from that.

superb writing! Having a father that is an alcoholic, this poem makes me greatful that I was raised primarily by my mother. This poem really hits what an alcoholic must go through on a daily basis. Very nice write my dear.

Some say they drink to forget their problems .. they dont think about how other get hurt by their drinking .. And they dont even think how they hurt their body themselves.
Some drink and spoil others life .. they are stupid and uncultured ...
Wish such uncultured drunkard stop drinking and think good ..

Honest, open and raw. That's the first step to getting there. Beautiful insight. I like it.

After reading this, maybe I won't reach for the gin after all.
I know what it's like to want to have something to numb the pain...and I know, too,it doesn't always work. Great writing! Thank you for your kind comments about mine :)
