Why Do I Write? CHALLENGE FOR ALL

Richard King has a poem in AD that he posted Sept. 10th titled 'Why Do I Write'. I want to issue a challenge to all the AD poets out there to write a poem on why YOU write. Here is mine...

I remember as a school girl
Writing poems for my friends
It seemed I was happiest
With my paper and pen
I got it from my Mama
I loved the poems she'd write
She never had them published
Thou she'd work into the night

When I'm sad or a little down
I can always write my best
My feelings jotted on paper
So easily expressed
Pain woven into words
Others peeking inside my  heart
Hoping readers cannot see
My world crumbling all apart

I write of little children
The abused babies of the world
I wish I could bring happiness
To every crying boy or girl
I write for the homeless
Living in a box on the street
Hiding from the secret stares
His eyes mirror his defeat

I write for the Mother
Who can't feed her family
The Daddy who has left them
Fear is all they can see
I write for the soldiers
Of the red, white and blue
And to the person reading this
I also write for you

I write for my Saviour
Who always stands by my side
He shed His blood for us all
For you and I He died
I write because it helps me
To unload a burden time to time
I can lay my heart on a table
In my own words an rhyme...

This is great, Linda. It opens your poetic heart to show your compassion for all the downtrodden, as well as your personal needs to write. I love the verse about writing for your Saviour, too!.."We are His workmanship (poetry), created ...to do good works." Poetry is the meaning of workmanship in the Scripture, or so I have been told. I love it!

Oh my, I so relate. I used to think poetry was for women and poofs, however, I found a great outlet, a cathartic outlet when my ex broke the pointless law and refused my contact with my son.

Not all Dad's run away, I went to court over 40 times to fight too see my child. Most dads are of similar ilk, but now i see why they give up. Women can ignore the law with impunity.

On here I found tip top support, until she had my writing banned at a contact hearing, which was really poetry on trial. One more poem and I'd go to Gaol!

Fantastic poem about your heart for people and your heart for writing. I have written a few poems on why i write and my passion for poetry. My grandfather wrote poems and although i never met him i was inspired to write when readuing his poems. I have posted them on my page. God bless. Baz

Great job Linda, "...My feelings jotted on paper..." "...Pain woven into words....Others peeking inside my heart.." great wordplay. I might add that your reasons for writing are much more noble than mine. No matter the reason, however, we are so lucky that you are motivated to write and to share your efforts with the world.

It will be interesting to see who, if anyone, accepts your challenge.

The plight of abused children and the homeless are extremely worthy topics, especially today. I find myself writing more and more about the plight of homeless animals - there are far too many of them out there right now, as well.
