This poem was inspired by Retta (Reindeer) McKenzie and her poem:
All My Mothers Children: Who Is He?
My mother was killed by a hit run drunk driver, so I have always spoke out about alcoholism. I only have one voice...let us all be heard.
Just one more drink
It will help me think
It might stop the pain
Think I'm going insane
My face reflected in the glass
Haunting images of my past
Liquid temptation beckoning me
Swirling lies of ecstasy
Just one more drink
How much deeper can I sink
It whispers it will set me free
As it burns its way inside of me
It spins its web beyond control
Intil it has my very soul
A thief I've let into my home
Robbing me of all I own..
good write--
for 28 years as a pastoral care giver i have worked with people who have lost their health nd freedom to booze. they have been business execs, clergy, farmers, shop keepers, first nations people, teachers, health care proffessionals, house wives ... the only thing that has changed if that they are younger and younger each year...

My dearest Linda, I well know the perils of alchohol. Alchoholic from 12 to 50 I drank and drove; sometimes without even knowing that I was driving. Yes Angel, this is a serious problem. It was a miracle when I stopped drinking and this stopped my drunk driving. Many many are like me, and society
pays a terrible price. AA is the greatest thing an alcoholic has. Through AA people do
and can recover, if they can be honest with themselves. I love you and this is a wonderful article. You are brilliant and wonderful writer. Keep writing these fine constructive poems. And you will go far.
Release the negative problems in your life.

Linda, excellent but sad write. If only they knew the effects and the many lives that one extra drink could have they would think twice. Drunk driving laws, although, getting more severe are not nearly severe enough. Society keeps arming these habitual offenders and unleashing them upon them upon us. Hopefully if we ban together we can apply the pressure to control this bane.
Ah Linda, I am sorry if I brought back sad memories, My brother was a beautiful person, until he drank, then he became a monster that we feared so much, Your words here ring so true, He died at the age of 36 from his alcohol abuse...but he left many wounded people behind in his wake.
This was such an excellent poem, on this subject.
My heart goes out to you,
Reindeer
