Progeria is a rare genetic condition characterized by the appearance of accelerated aging in children. 1 in 4 to 8 million newborns have progeria. They are born looking healthy, but by 18 to 24 months they begin to display many of the characteristics of accelerated aging. Progeria signs include growth failure, loss of body fat and hair, aged looking skin, stiff joints, hip dislocation, generalized atherosclerois, cardivascular disease, and stroke. Researchers have recently found the gene that causes Progeria, so we pray a cure will be found. This poem is in honor of all the precious children suffering from this disease. It steals their childhood... but by the grace of God...if a cure is found...it won't steal their life...
I have feelings just like you
Plans and hopes and dreams
My appearance may be different
But nothing is what it seems
In my heart and my mind
I am but still a child
But my body accelerates in time
Aging all the while
I cannot comprehend
I don't always understand
But when I get sad and cry
Mommy holds my hand
Daddy says I'm so brave
That I'm his little girl
He don't look at my disease
I'm still his whole world
I pray they will find a cure
So others just like me
Won't have to suffer as I do
I hope they find the key
To unlock that door of healing
So every girl and boy
Can run in the sunlight
Play with a favorite toy
I cannot comprehend
I don't always understand
But when I get sad and cry
Mommy holds my hand
A masterfully written champion work from your heart. It causes my heart to beat and my soul to pray that these things such as progeria never manifest themselves in my newborn son. My heart goes out to those who must go through this and other such things with their babies.

I will pray deeply for these children.
Sadness surrounds this topic, but also some wonder. For these children at least, their lives may end before love for them does.
To be loved their whole lives through can be some consolation until cures can be found.

Linda, a very worthy write as only you can do. Thank you for once more bringing to our attention this terrible problem. These children make you want to scream, to cry out for help for them. Hopefully the gene research will bear fruit and this disorder can be eradicated. Your friend Bill
a very sad, rare disease... if man can isolate the gene that causes this accelerated aging perhaps we can learn the secrets of slowing down the aging process...
This is excellent write indeed! Yes, it's true that there are children with this disease. I once had watched a show on the TV about kids like this and they had even gone on the show. I felt so sorry for these children, for they never had much of a childhood for people look at them differently.
For whatever the reason for this disease, I hope they will find cure for it soon.
