Being of Scottish descent, I enjoy the history and legends and lores of Scotland. In years gone by Druidhs were honored and respected for their knowledge and ability to help others. I hope you enjoy this write.

Ceremony of the Druidh

©By Kathy Lynn

Tis a special day today,

For the lassie is full grown.

Tis time for the old Druidh,

To hand over his magic staff.

 Tis hers now to own.

Into the forest they both went,

For the ceremony would take place there.

Both dressed in their cloaks.

Ye could feel the magic in the air.

The old Druidh spoke to the lass,

“Ye must look deep inside of you

To find the knowledge for the magic,

If ye would be like me.”

She reached and took the staff,

Holding her breath in.

As the Druidh handed it to her,

Now the magic would begin.

The moment her fingers,

Touched the wood she could feel.

A gentle trickle of energy,

Moving through her, for tis real.

The staff began to hum,

A whisper, as her hand

Closed around it.

Tis the magic again.

Pulsing and vibrating,

It echoed each beat of her heart.

For the knowledge was flowing into her,

That was dormant from the start.

Colorful tendrils of light appeared,

Dancing through the forest this night.

Energy sizzling and blinding,

Engulfing her in a strobe of light,

“Hold tight”, the Druidh said,

“Don’t be afraid lass.

Tis only the magic welcoming ye,

Embrace the knowledge for it is in thee.”

She could feel it:  the energy,

The freedom and power.

All five of her senses sharpened,

Tis was her finest hour.

As she clutched the staff to her chest,

Something indescribable happened.

A sixth sense settled over her,

A blanket of knowledge it sent.

An awareness she had never felt before,

Made her body tingle and surge.

The power of the staff in her hand,

Flowed into everyone of her nerves.

The old Druidh nodded his head,

As he witnessed the scene.

For now his powers gone,

He would live out his dream.

For centuries he lived,

Watching all he loved die.

But not anymore for him,

He smiled and sighed.

For when the lass became the Druidh,

He became a simple man.

To live and die as others have,

Since time has began.

The lass would be the wizard,

Until her destiny was fulfilled.

In her hands he put the world,

Until all time stood still.

The ceremony over now,

They walked out of the forest glen.

The old man and new Druidh,

Now her reign would begin.
