When reading this poem.... use imagination. Ask what is old age? What happens to us? How distant do we get from our real lives when we age? This poem is a reference to a poem titled "Mr Bleaney".
This was my room, as I
Look around me now,
Cannot remember all the details somehow,
Maybe I'm just too far away from it all.
Standing now by my window
Where I stood so many times
Before, I used to listen to the
Wind, hoping to hear a familiar voice.
My room now seems so empty
But I didn't need much
More, she always
Used to go on at me
About the gardening and so
I always just told her
Stories of my life, she
Listened but moaned
More about the way
That I am now, but
I did have happy
Days, I remember the Christmas
That I spent at my
Sister's, I remember the
hugs and all the love back then.
This room... was a room
Where I lived, I don't know
How special it was to me
I don't remember feeling it was my home
My life had surprises, that
I couldn't run from
My life had a plan I
Didn't make at all.
a thought provoking piece. And very good poetic expression. When I WAS young I never stopped to just sit and enjoy my nice young age. Of course I don't make that mistake anymore. Everyday I just sit a few moments and enjoy being where i'm at now. cheers G
Tonya, many times we go through life without a plan. We call it winging it, so to speak. As I look back when I was a young man I had no idea I would be where I am today. Everything in my life happened so quickly that one might call it living spontaneously. As I age I do have a bit of direction but all in all live for the moment. I'll get off my soap box now. Your poem is a very good inspirational tool. Well done.
Like the refererence to seeing the self as similar to the perceived adult was to the self in younger age. I have not read the other poem you speak of so I cannot comment more on that aspect. J.
