'. . . like the hands on a clock'

Poem Artwork

I spend all my time standing alone

I bled for a reason - I wanted to;

each drop my own; slowly watched

the sentiments leave my heart.

Any and all feelings I once had, I

now watch them depart; like the

hands on a clock - thrown away

But the seconds keep ticking.

So, if you need to find me, I'll

be drifting through the dark

looking for any signs of sympathy

and begging for night's mercy.

My life is no longer the same

Ghosts from my past haunt me

with undried tears - I am numb

As time goes on and on.

I am out looking for my best

friend who died at such a young

age - he meant the world to me

Can't let the memories fade away.

One by one, life's distractions seem

to get in the way - and I am somehow

afraid of walking through the door that

leads to the other side.

A place where parts of my life gather

piece by piece every time I lose a

loved one or friend - and if I enter, will

I be able to say the right words?

And if I found my best friend, or even

a loved one, what would I do if they

turned away from me in disgust - for

not having done more in life with them.

I've got to get back to a reason - rekindle

my hope, and the feelings in my heart

Time to awaken and stand back in the

place marked 'Be a Man'; and I did!

'2008' RLS

Lance,
This strike a chord in my heart, for I also had a best friend who passed away much to soon. Her name was Shelia. We worked together and were very close. She got cancer and was gone so fast, I regret so much the time I could have spent with her and didn't. She was deeply religious, I am certain she is with Jesus. But still....Linda misses her...

Blessings and huggs,
~Linda

Hello Robert Lance,

(I don't know which to call you). You wrote this so painfully heart wrenching, it is like one from Shakespeare's plays or the Greek tragedies (Oedipus Rex). Still it is YOUR own, magnificent and unique. I think you have "awakened".

A very unusual concept of reason and wonder. This is well expressed and allows me the deep thoughts: of others and wonder, If possibly they will remember me. I love the photo.
Your talent shines!

This one squeezes the heart ... powerfully penned sadness, and yet, hope: well done.

A very heartfelt offering Lance...there are so many questions with no answers...but I am sure your friends will never turn away with disgust...that is one thing I know...because I am one of those friends remember!!

"rekindle
my hope, and the feelings in my heart..."

Yes! A heartfelt message! None of us can change the past, but we can try to influence "OUR NOW!" So, keep on lovin' and tryin', and writin'!
