A Glorious Invitation

I was six at first memory of mother,
though I clearly remember brother
and, of course, there was my dad,
a tall and handsome lad.
Oh, but mother was there from day one;
rather, family said, she was mentally undone.

Perhaps, being taken to church caused recall;
for it was there love reigned without fall,
as they taught that Jesus loves me and you.
Me! A little girl not seen, it was true ;
He offered freedom and much gain,
all lacking illness, misery and pain.

He invited me to join Him— at the time,
I was reaching nigh on to nine.
I remember being so happy and excited
as I rushed up the isle, mother not at all delighted.
She tried to prevent me, "Too young," she said;
still, I pulled away and rushed ahead.

Oh, I had so much about Him to learn,
to assure I never, never would burn;
but, I was very young and often fell.
Ah, but He was quick to tell,
then He'd pick me up and brush me off:
yet, never cruelly nor even scoff.

I've known our Lord, now, nigh on to fifty-four years,
through many ups and downs, joys and tears;
in some way broke every law He gave us:
still, Jesus stood by, all without a fuss.
Oh, He corrected me, yes He did!
Until finally, I learned to do as He bid.

There was one time when I felt so terribly alone;
He gently cradled me, His voice a soothing tone.
Another time, I took an overdose of pills;
so tired and wanting free of this earth's ills.
He was fierce, when in the hospital I awoke.
"YOU'VE THINGS YET TO DO!" he spoke.

Finally, I learned all His lessons well;
then, our Lord gave me gifts, I'm here to tell!
Now every day in my assigned missions I labour,
joyously doing the work of my beloved Saviour.
He has said, "Seek me early and ye shall find me."
If you haven't sought Him, He's calling to thee.

Splendid message in this poem Bonita! It seems we who know Him, though we may stray a time or two, always wind up proclaiming His attributes, because we have learned first hand that, they are all true, and blessed are we to have learned it!
