On her final Christmas. |

|
Our Christmas Tree
She stands and twinkles
Like a weary old friend
Silently incessantly
Irrepressibly she glows
In glorious colors of
Red and green and yellow
And blue.
Even the cats love her
As they climb her
Branches while seeking
Out special vantage spots
For making their
Observations.
For 11 seasons she
Turned and turned
In pirouettes of showmanship
Like a majestic ballerina.
A carousel of colors
Carrying a treasure
Trove of ornaments
Gathered from locations
Too numerous to
Keep track of.
Now she grows tired
And no longer turns.
A broken branch
Exposes her underside.
Like the Mayan calendar
She is making her final
Stand with grace
And memories of
Delightful times
Having fulfilled her
Tasks of making our
Home a little brighter
And with a sense of
Purpose and dignity
She knows her destiny
And so she twinkles
With an extra sparkle
This year.
She hides fewer
Presents while she
Reveals ever more presence.
