I have enjoyed a very modest lifestyle, without excesses. Still, I have from time to time visited other places and also enjoyed a few luxuries that were beyond my day to day enjoyment. I prefer my simple life without the trappings.

Inner Sanctums
I have dined in the most exclusive country estates
Used silver utensils for cuisine I had never before tasted
Joined with power elites in the most private of clubs
While my lady played an impromptu improvisation
On the heretofore vacant concert grand piano
Found respite in the company of Dickens’s heirs
Regaled with ambassadors at a fashionable opera house
Upstaged a famous producer on his turf
And delivered an oratory to a group of thousands
But none of these venues or honorees or occasions
Found a permanent place in my memories
As did the clarity and the solemnity
Of a moment of silent introspection
As I stood alone in the presence of Nature
And marveled at the handiwork of God.
Gracious - these things are certainly way above the common expectations of the daily grind, Edward, and are moments, I'm sure to be treasured. So well said, and for me like you said , I too feel at ease only when I am close to nature in the place near to home and that is where all my senses peak... as.... like they say.. I am in my element!

I have traveled some of the same path, and like you, prefer the simpler, more natural life. While Thoreau may not have had access to the venues in your poem, you have matched him in quality and sincerity.

Though I have not had near those kinds of experiences, I ech your sentiments. I stand I awe of the God who made us all. Thanks for stopping by my den. The poem you commented on, "In the Bottom of Your Ocean", stemmed from feelings I was having from a miraculous event that occurred in my family...made me a-gape at His mighty works -- not only of nature (which was part of it), but of great compassion and comfort. May those loving waves wash over you too. --Charlie
In today’s secular environment the two worlds of science and spirituality are alien worlds, distinguished primarily by a deep-seated antagonism in which the principles of spirituality and the pragmatism of modern science exist face to face in a peren
