Up to the lips and over the gums
Look out belly here it comes
It’s quite a silly verse
And what is even worse
You can’t play it on the fiddle or the drums.
A mug was made for drinkin’ not for suppin’
It’s a gesture simply known as bottom uppin’
You can raise it to the sky
And in the sweet by and by
You may find it’s good to use for sober uppin’.
Yes long ago and far away
A lovely lass came to me one day
She suggested we have a bloody spot o’ tea—
I politely declined
I wasn’t so inclined
‘Cause tea and me will always disagree.
Instead we filled our vessels to the brim
With lager meant to strengthen life and limb
And when ’twas half way gone
Let our cares just linger on
We filled ‘em up until the day grew dim.
You see lad life’s a mindless silly game
To waste it with clean livin’s quite a shame
So down a keg or two
With that sloshy foamy brew
Them belch and laugh at everyone the same.
So here’s to life that’s honest long and true
A merry one that's meant for me and you
May our days be filled with fun
But before each one is done
Let’s quench our thirst with a cool and foamy brew.
Enjoyed the rhythms, the rhymes, and the sheer joy of the piece. Being of Irish descent might have had something to do with us. Some good fun and very humorous. I thank your Irish friends for stirring you on. John
No longer do I partake,
I don't want to be fake,
My drink is now of the weed,
Grown it is from the seed,
Like barley & hops of the brew,
But the weed doesn't get me in as much of a stew...-e-
Ahhh . . . Loved this great rhyming poem, Edward, although I'm a cheap California burgundy drinker meself . . . But in the past I have definitely drowned myself in that great foamy brew.
