I wish for you enough of life’s sorrows
To build the strength to endure all of life’s pains;
I wish for you many more tomorrows
Filled with challenges to find your personal gains.

I wish for you enough of life’s honors
But not so many they become part of your aim;
I wish for you enough of true friendships
So that you can return to them again and again.

I wish for you wisdom in abundance
For you to act with courage when it is required;
I wish for you all of the compassion
That raises you beyond your own desires.

I wish for you time enough to ponder
To understand just what you need to do;
I wish for you enough of life’s pleasures
So you will never seek them as your reward or your due.

I wish for you enough of life’s treasures
To bear the pain when losing comes your way;
I wish for you a life that’s lived for others
With not a thought of how to make it pay.

I wish you a glimpse of tomorrow with so much more to see
That gives you hope laughter and joyous bits of fun;
I wish for you a life that’s filled with wonder
That consumes your time with an honest distance run.

I wish for you a life with much forgiving
With hopes and dreams enough for everyone;
And long before your days have reached their final calling...

I wish for you love without malice fear or fame;
And may you wish me just once before our parting
A life that’s very much the same.
