Nicely put for our contemplation. Having recently returned from the hospital after a severe UTI, I understand what it's like to have gone to hell and come back.
It would be entirely too flip to say "Been there, done that," yet that is exactly my response to your words here. Those moments when I am truly entirely alone with myself and the universe are so empty yet pregnant with potential. From the sadness and loneliness come rebirth. The world isn't new but I am. I am a different person than I was just minutes before. A leap of faith? Not always. Sometimes its just a matter of surrender.

You say it at the end: faith is not a leap, as though we are jumping out of ourselves. We are the faith; it is in us as a bedrock. Secondly, you mention our connection to the universe: indeed, the universe is the big man and we are the little universe. It is all interconnected. The terror comes when we lose the connection, the astral thread as it were, leading to a nothingness that is impossible to bear because it doesn't partake of the reality. Your poem, among myself and the other thoughtful reviewers/commenters, has led to fruitful thought. A remarkable poem. And I love the title, most appropriate. John
A moving piece; honestly and thoughtfully constructed. I agree with OR; there is subtext manifest (in this) for those willing to meditate a moment. Though it seemed contrary to context, for some reason, I was reminded vividly of the Challenger disaster. Appealing to the universe is something I have never done. Instead I have always, since I was a young child, reached out to its Most High Creator. Enjoyed the deeper flow of water in this. Peace to you... r

I will be quite honest with you. I have never seen such an honest and real explanation about this terror in my life. Don't even think I have even seen it written about. It is completely honest in its declaration of what goes on inside of you. Somehow we survive this horror, by that hand you speak of, or by just waiting it out, somehow we survive. If its by that hand, I will look for it if ever I have another episode of the terror. It has been quite a few years since I have been inside the terror, and I hope it will be many, many more. But if not, I will seek out that hand.
Both the sub-text and foreshadowing of this piece embolden a reader to take heed, allow external distractions to drift away, if only for a few moments, and then become the quietness that ushers in the essence of your message...one that is both essential and in desperate risk of being endangered along with so much of Nature's other realms of purity. Such is the plight of words and thoughts destined to forge change, or in the case of ignorance, demise. Thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd read of this fine effort to shake us up.
