There is a time or place or circumstance, much like the forbidden fruit, that lays somewhere beyond our moral compass that sometimes beckons us. The danger is that when we peer into that abyss we can stumble and fall in. Nobody pushed us but ourselves. But how do you get out with no support to lean on? It is a very dark place...

Redemption
The most gut-wrenching feeling that engulfs me
Does not originate from anger or loss
Or disappointment—
It arises from disconnection
When I feel completely alone
Adrift in a universe that
Seems to have separated me from it
Or it from me;
It does not seem to care;
It is neither the sound nor the fury of hate
It is the cry of indifference
When I am irrelevant
About as useless as a speck of dust
Alone to drift forever
In a vast expanse of nothing to nowhere.
It occurs when my soul has
Lost its way;
It is too painful to endure
For more than a moment;
Reconnection happens only
When I ask for it;
And the resurgence of life
Is restored;
It is redemption
An inner knowing that
Life and love and purpose
Are at the core of my being
It is my passageway to all that is
And I am whole again.
You're certainly correct with "life and love and purpose" If nothing else, you should cherish the purpose and its results you provide for your readers. Wisdom and perception are not alone elements, unless we let them be. Keep your thoughts coming, they are appreciated by a large number of readers.
Sometimes it seems that the world wants us to believe we are inconsequential in every way, but you, sir, are definitely not! I'm glad you are able to remind yourself of that when you become lost.
Ed, this is a wonderful, honest and relenting (notice: no "un", and that's the point) peak into the middle of your being. It's anything but self-serving and that's what makes it so accessible. I found a message there for me as well and, so did others. As long as you write, you're not alone.
Years ago I read something that stuck with me. I've never tried to tear it apart to "discover" what it means, but it does seem to be truthful: "There's nothing so hard as the softness of indifference".
Strange, isn't it that indifference cuts both ways and that it's okay, sometimes, to wallow in its softness?

Oh Edward, I have so moved on from all that worry which confuses you. I came to the understanding quite a while back that nothing anyone, or anything can do, or not do, to cause me pain. It is what it is, my friend.

Are you still angry at God for having lost a loved one due to sickness or unexpected circumstances? This book will give you a better understanding of death, God’s role in it, and what decision is before each of us that would allow us to see them agai

I can dip in these feelings often.
