The illusion of a change in cash flow.

Poem Artwork

In with nothing…

It’s been a long time coming
Years and years to be inexact
Like a herd of monkeys off my back
Or whatever you call a bunch of chimps;
I can finally lift my tired old head
And walk without looking for loose change;
I can stop adding my telephone number
To the “do not call” list weekly and so weakly;
I can stop shouting obscenities at those
Dastardly underpaid wimps who dare to
Call as if I am the sole source of their annoyances;
Oh to once again breathe polluted air
And worry about it killing me rather than
Those fiendish ones who do the polluting;
Time was when a man was measured by
The content of his character and not by
The contents in his pockets;
When evil was the things I do
And not those done to me;
To think I used to walk softly
While carrying a big stick;
Now I walk proudly and
Carry a big schtick;
Now I have found the
True meaning of life—
I am no longer one of your tired
Your poor your wretched refuse
Yearning to breathe free—
I am now one of your wretched free
Who refuses to eat refuse
For now I walk proudly among
Those few souls who can say
F*** you! I am out of debt
And my new net worth is
Zero.

I believe I have also reached that coveted zero mark. After all the checks and balances are in place, I'm nowhere better than where I was when I started.

Most people are in debt up to their ears. Gone are the days when people bought what they had the money for and could afford. Now the entire economy is based on what people want but cannot afford. Congratulations on having the zero account. That is quite the accomplishment in this day and age.

It would be nice to check out without owing anybody anything, and having spent my last cent.

Like the newspaperman, you have reached a point in your life where you are able to say, "Dammit, I can't take anymore." It is a wonderful, freeing experience that I have achieved as well.

Let's keep punching holes in their logic/rhetoric and soon everyone will understand like we do!

Love it. You've captured what some of us wished we could express as well. Having lived through many a tax return dealing with 7 figure nightmares, I can attest to the peace your last 5 lines as in reach of all, but few will risk the grasping and holding on. Highly insightful write. More... more?

Sounds very much like true freedom, old friend.
