Success in life is where you find it
Or better where the mind is
We know it where the glow is
On faces serene and calm.
Placards banners and
“Attaboys” are not the real McCoys
Just substitutes
For honest endeavors
That arise out of the sheer joy
Of thinking doing finding
That in the struggles
of life
It’s not in the framing
but in the strife
Not in the blaming
but in the knife
That cuts away the excess
and leaves nothing there
Only a point of view
that humanity never knew
Until we met the real
You.
I love the beauty of the simplicity in this poem, with lines like "Success...is where the glow is/On faces serene and calm/" that cuts like a rosy knife in my heart for I've felt THAT "glow", I still do, that is when I free myself. I feel it when a match of literary aethetical light dawns upon me like a creative halo...I feel it as when I write with gusto, I feel it when I read back what I've written and my heart swells up to an uproarious love for humanity...that being alive so touches me...THIS poem touched me, manitesting beauty in its simplicity...I am all a "glow"!I plan to be in touch as well as read more of your philosophy Dear Poet, and I am grateful that you are among us...in grattitude...

Serenity has a nice rhythm to it. Reminds me of rap, or what you might hear at a poetry slam reading. Yes, finding what you're meant to do is an honest endeavor that comes with struggle and sacrifice. I really like it.

Very nice, Edward; deftly done and it indeed it cuts through the superfluous metaphysical excesses of human life to remind us that genuine serenity is as simple, basic (and vital to all of us) need as inhaling a breathe of bracing mountain air or taking a drink of pure water...
Beautiful poem. I've often thought that it isn't so much what others think they know about you as what you know of yourself, what you believe and what you have personally accomplished. Only in self knowledge, and self acceptance, can there be true serenity.
