 Nostalgia

It was a strange new world

That I had not visited before

Filled with excitement.

She noticed I had some control

Where others did not.

She was young and exciting

In love with love

A sign of inexperience

but full of expectations and wonder

Reminiscent of times long past.

The rain and wind and disarray

Called upon my finding a way

To seal the deal by

Showing her my wisdom

and charm

and steadiness.

It almost worked.

My competition was younger

and stronger and inexperienced

He carried them well.

I called upon knowledge

and charm and craftiness.

She wanted strength vitality

and endurance

Attributes time had taken from me.

As I fumbled for one final thrust

at winning her heart

She jumped into a standby vehicle

and drove away...

with youth and inexperience.

All the next day

that dream kept jabbing at my

memory banks--

At what used to be.

But neither would let me see

her face again.

Ah youth! Such folly found in those still afflicted with its self-centered nature before life beats them into submission. Better to enjoy the wisdom of your years with someone with whim you share much in common and let the whippersnappers learn how little they actually know.

I sense some musings from the past like in the narrative of Lolita. If the dream still nags you, perhaps write a short story with as much passion as that little story was.
