Today, I am reminded of the loss
the longing, the wishing
she was still here and then
all of this wouldn’t be happening
the anger, the resentment
would not have ever been so
all of us would be the way we were
if she was still here
all of this wouldn’t be happening
not this time of the year
all of us would be the way we were
when Christmas was a gift in itself
a time for us to be together as a family
the family we were then
when she was here
and just knowing that she would
be so saddened by this forbidden reality
from her death we’ve made
breaks my solemn heart into
for my only wish was to carry on
her traditions and bring us together
for Christmas this year



Always cherish your loved ones
for we never are quite prepared
for the time to come
when their physical beings
leave this place and we are left
to sort it out on our own.
