I had a dream about this. I have no idea what it means. I have translated it from the French.

Calm Before The Storm

Winter
Rain
Snow
Have washed the trees

They are clean
Bare and beautiful

The storm is over
The moon rises
In the silver sky
She shines her sinister smile
At the trees
Clean
Bare and beautiful
Like soldiers before the battle

Distant noises
Soldiers are coming

In this calm before the storm
I close my eyes
I sleep and I dream
Of you

Le calme avant l’orage

L’hiver
La pluie
La neige
Ont lavé les arbres

Ils sont propres
Dénudés et beaux

La tempête est finie
La lune se lève
Dans le ciel argenté
Son sourire sinistre sourit
Aux arbres propres
Dénudés et beaux
Comme des soldats avant le combat

Des bruits lointains
Les soldats approchent

Dans ce calme avant l’orage
Je ferme les yeux
Je dors et je rêve
De toi

absolutely beautiful, why is it it gets so cloudy and spooky before a storm, but when it's over, the air is so clean and fresh smelling, you want it to last forever. Here is Michigan, right before a storm whether it be rain or snow, it get's so spooky but when it's over, taking a walk, seems the right thing to do.

After reading the poem, in both languages and the reviews, one feels kind of lost for words.
But,"son sourire sinistre sourit" gave me connotation of other things, took me on a trip to another forest, to other trembling skies, in a world of screams with fear, to a universe where man was beating the calm with a club made of storms.
You started me going...

Oh yes... the anticipation, perhaps, of an awaited emotional climax that clarifies and transmits. All is gleaned in that sudden moment of the revelation of a lightning strike. I like this a lot. It's so clear and visual. I have no idea why, but it reminds me a little of a lyric by James Taylor - has the same sparse and yet specific story-telling qualities. Bless you, Regis. Somehow more urgent, engaging and incredibly moving in French, Regis, I loved your deeply revealing and prophetic writing in English as well, so thank you for the expert translation.

The entire poem gives me the sensation of wish fulfillment versus fear. The trees are significant as they are "clean, bare and beautiful," images that hint of innocence and strength combined in their essence. Although the next stanza states that the storm is over, which has cleansed the field, your title as well as the remainder of the poem hint of a new storm pending, filling the reader with dread and the poem with an underlying tension that refuses to dissipate even until the end. Then, the moon, which most writers perceive as neutral or fair, takes on a "sinister" role in your poem, continuing the theme of danger to come as she rises. This image gives the reader the sense that the new evil that she portends will touch us all. Next, as the prophet you are, you interpret these signs as "war is coming," a prognostication I believe we all should heed. Knowing the future that awaits, and in contrast to the tension this work is fraught with throughout, you conclude with a nostalgic return to an innocent and emotionally satisfying state of comfort and protection, leaving the vision of the more universal perilous future for the personal wish fulfillment and satisfaction of the dream. Great effort. I enjoyed every intensely vivid line.

Dreams can have deep meanings and sometimes just a remnant of the day's events that the subconscious mind stores. As I read the lines again and again, I can feel the dreamer's yearning to be in his own 'comfort zone', where he feels happy and safe and dream away unwanted factors that life might bring to his door. You really got my contemplative side on this one, Reg. Very interesting indeed.

Be well,

This is beautiful, Regis, even translated into English. The picture looks like a place in Northern California called "Cathedral." There is a narrow gauge train that goes through the redwoods there and you can stop at this place and have a picnic or take a Kodak moment and catch the next train going in either direction. This place got its name because when the sun shines at the right angle through the grove of trees, it makes stained glass patterns on the earth. I suspect that your dream depicts a quenching of the area through rain and snow, followed by renewal in Spring. The redwood is ever staunch but should she fall, new life will sprout forth from the length of her trunk; she is fertile even in death.
Take care,
Sherry
