Halloween

Misty evening
Ghosts and witches fly about
It is Halloween

A skeleton crew
Comes from the cemetery
Bones are a-rattling

Trick or treaters teem
Up and down the darkened streets
With shouts of delight

It is a clear night
The moon watches from above
With her friends the stars

Fallen autumn leaves
Rustle in the chilly breeze
And swirl down the street

From skeletal trees
Owls hoot out a warning
About ghosts and ghouls

A man dressed in black
Is lurking from dark shadows
His eyes are gleaming

A zombie or two
Wander about as if lost
Looking for a home

There’s a pretty witch
Enjoying this special time
Flying on her broom

She is being chased
By Casper the Friendly Ghost
It’s a game they play

It is getting late
Trick or treaters head for home
With their sweet treasures

The moon is waning
Strange ones return to their homes
Wherever that is

It’s been a spooktacular night

I know Halloween has passed, but I just saw you post and I am glad I did.

Such a fun and unique way to approach the Haunting Holiday. Separately and all as one I enjoyed your Halloween poetic treat.

Nicely rendered. I like the idea of a "skeleton crew." Cool, like a Halloween.

We white warlocks don't need what witches use for transportation, we just snap our fingers to appear & disappear, and we all enjoy our friend Regis' Halloween poetic treats, but we will supply the tricks...-e-

I like the lifting spirit of this row of Haiku — the color, the atmosphere they all create together. I enjoy the lines that give sound, “bones are a-rattling” and leaves rustle and swirl down the street. My favorite one is “From skeletal trees/Owls hoot out a warning/About ghosts and ghouls”. Really fun to see someone who is familiar with Casper the Friendly Ghost (I watched those black & white cartoons!). Fun post, thank you*. ~~ djl

Yet another delightful poem and lush with an ambience befitting the season. Will gladly be helping my daughter read through it when she wakes up later this morning. Thanks, Regis.

A very timely write, Regis!
Happy Halloween!!!
Be safe, and make sure they are children
when you open the door to give out candy
for everyone will be wearing a face mask.
