A great book will make its way to your Kindle, and the story will remain inside your heart long after you’ve read the last page. ‘Sandhills’ by Alan Vandervoort is that book! A Contemporary, Coming-of-Age featuring a male protagonist named Jeremy, this 468-page novel wasn’t long enough for my liking because I didn’t want my reading journey to end, even though the conclusion of the story was fitting.

The author has written a profound literary work which envelops the reader inside the cocoon of a life-affirming story by capturing realism at every turn:

The psychological and sociological impact Jeremy’s verbally and physically abusive father have on him throughout high school.

The situations, interactions, and snappy dialoguing between young adults.
The author’s intricate knowledge of sports and music—especially trumpet playing, Jeremy’s saving grace to come into his own.

The symbolism of the Sandhills elicited both at the beginning and end of the novel.

Once in a while, a great book offering its reader an accurate glimpse of teen angst and alienation comes along—notably—‘The Catcher in the Rye’ by J. D. Salinger, ‘A Separate Peace’ by John Knowles, and ‘Sandhills’ by Alan Vandervoort.
