You wonder just how many times an educated young woman—a psychology student, at that, can make the same mistake again and again. Renata, guilty as charged, falls in love with the proverbial “bad boys”. Davor fits the bill. Her attraction to him is baffling because he’s uneducated, vulgar, isn’t good looking, and has a paunch. Even more baffling, Renata knows this, but can’t stop lowering her standards and ruining her reputation. She’s like a cat in heat around him.

While nothing new to talk about, the author shines a harsh light on her flawed, lifelike characters within the scope of a short story, long on impact. If this story awakens someone in a similar situation to realize their own self-worth, the author has done more than pen a work of fiction.

I highly recommend this story for its psychological edginess. As in life, the painful lessons we learn might make us wiser, but not happier.
