Horror Short: Horror Engraved in Stone
My 5-Star Review in entirety published at Amazon for David W. Thompson's horror short, 'My Name is Samantha':
The author carves a well-chiseled horror story out of a cave setting. Samantha, the narrator of this short, is a traditional potter whose solo camping trip is for the purpose of gathering clay from its natural surroundings. She encounters a stranger who suggests she explore a nearby cave as a source of colored clay. Samantha’s entry into that cave soon chisels the ensuing horror awaiting her and the reader who follows inside.
In a matter of 21 pages, the author leaves no stone unturned for the voyeuristic spelunker. Samantha reveals troubling details about a romantic relationship gone sour. Through her eyes, the reader senses evil inside the cave:
The darkness of a cave isn’t like that of a starlit night. It’s more like drowning in a pool of India ink, or burnt motor oil, a physical thing stroking your skin. Your pores absorb its foulness. Its taste, when breathing it in, is the taste of dank unwholesome.
Click, clack, clickety!
If you fancy a horror story that causes the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up—this one’s for you!
