Mystery/Thriller: Oh, what a tangled web she weaves!
My 5-Star review in entirety published at Amazon for Book 2 of Kenna McKinnon’s Mystery Thriller Series:
For me, a nineteenth century quote attributed to Sir Walter Scott sums up how author, Kenna McKinnon, ensnares her readers from the first page to the last in her second book of the mystery series. Annie Hansen’s father, Albin, invokes this same quote during his musings with regard to what has gone down on Serendipity Island, having far-reaching implications in the criminal underworld at large. He should know.
The author entangles various characters from warring drug cartels, double crossers, moles, and crooked politicians who keep the reader guessing and turning the pages as to who knows more than they’re letting on. She really got into the nitty gritty of drug trafficking to lend credibility to the story. What an ingenious plan she devised to take down Jimmy Holub!
Well-written at every turn, Ms. McKinnon does a commendable job weaving important details about the protagonist throughout the story. Such as, unpaid detective Annie Hansen’s schizophrenic hallucinations, delusions, and compulsive counting. We learn about Annie’s troubled life during her teenage years. There’s Annie’s loving relationship with partner, Mark Snow.
I highly recommend this fast-paced and cleverly written thriller where the author weaves an entangling web to ensnare the reader as well as her characters.
