In a little over 200 pages, the author’s story about a serial killer goes beyond solving four heinous crimes and preventing more from occurring. P.S. Winn probes the depths of her characters, allowing the reader to see what makes them tick—particularly, Becca, a detective who suffers from chronic pain.

Becca’s affliction propels the reader into the realm of hypnosis where Dr. Megan Laughlin incorporates past-life regression to eliminate the origin of pain. In the meantime, Becca falls in love while we’re getting a gander of the purported killer’s rationale for murder.

While I harbored my suspicions as to the identity of the killer, the outcome still knocked me for a loop. The emotional upheavals and psychological twists render this novel an attention holder worth delving into.
