Author Martha Perez beguiles the reader from the get-go, setting a sinister tone for the first house on the right. Detective Maud Starling feels an inexplicable connection to the place. Not only does she delve into the mystery surrounding present atrocities, but purchases the house.

From thereon in, the reader willingly absorbs the story’s ripples of spine-tingling chills with grizzly details: bizarre relationships, unspeakable acts, kindred connections, and spirits demanding retribution.

I highly recommend this absorbing thriller where evil is a tour de force.
