Author/poet Anna Casamento Arrigo’s interactive storybook geared for a reading age of 3-7, is a great conversation starter for encouraging and empowering girls.
Through a succession of illustrations and accompanying rhymes, young girls see several career possibilities that defy gender role stereotyping: arborist, police officer, firefighter, architect, astronaut, etc.
In this regard, the storybook is a springboard for encouraging girls to foster a mindset of thinking outside the box. By the same token, the storybook empowers girls to have self-confidence in following their dreams without reticence.
I highly recommend this storybook which entails a teachable moment for parents to expound upon often.

The courses I taught were highly technical and geared towards engineers and managers. I was always delighted when women came to my classes. Often in very small proportion to the men. Except when it came to my courses at the MBA level, where women actually outnumbered men in 1980.
I found that the women often had superior skill when it came to problem-solving. I remember the outstanding ones. The girl in production management and operations at Marshall University who was the top of the class for all my sections. The beautiful young woman who gushed over my introduction to computers at Marshall University. She got a job at the local Army Corps of Engineers as an intern and turned in top-level work.
Finally, the rather introverted and shy daughter of a Thai shopkeeper at Atlanta University, in business statistics, who turned in "perfect" work of textbook quality on all of my assignments. All done with lettering that resembled typing. Excel spreadsheets well before Excel.
