Author Erika M. Szabo’s Sci-Fi short read with a dash of espionage gives the reader plenty to think about long after the last page has been turned. Remi, a sixteen-year-old suffering from juvenile psoriatic arthritis, has a near-fatal attack landing her at the hospital emergency room. In the cubicle next to her, lies Konrad, a teen clinging to life from the ravages of cystic fibrosis.

By medical error, Remi is injected with the “treatment” meant for Konrad. Nothing short of miraculous, her illness is cured and she has developed telepathic ability. Living in the same neighborhood, she and Konrad develop a friendship before he also receives the life-saving antidote.

As both Remi and Konrad grapple with the price they’re not willing to pay for their telepathic powers, the reader is drawn into the secrecy of government-controlled medical experimentation, and questionable ethics behind the miraculous treatment.

After all, most teens like Remi and Konrad just want to lead a normal life with no strings attached. I highly recommend this short read which bridges a scientific mindset from the past to the present.
