Surreal, most of the journey takes place inside a fuchsia-colored 1955 Citroën, be it Johnnie Fae Hatfield’s or Professor Irwin Corey’s.
Bobo, the Hobo and his poisonous dog, Fritz, certainly get the ball rolling for madcap mayhem with justice well-served along the way. Then, Justine, a southern belle drifter comes into the picture. She, Bobo and the other characters he attracts in his getaway from the law nipping at his heels, engage in repartee laced with literary allusions which enrich the entire road trip.
Their search for Godot becomes a quest to find Justine’s father, the likes of Steam Train Maury Graham, King of the Hobos. Seeking, they shall find, courtesy of Fritz, their astute navigator. Lo and behold, Maury’s enchanted ghost train filled with a who’s who of ghost riders with artistic merit.
A literary road trip well-worth taking, I highly recommend piling inside the fuchsia Citroen to undertake a journey farcically profound as its destination of a westbound train.
