An Emotional Vortex

Without giving away any spoilers, Author, Ivy Logan’s ‘And Then You Were Gone’ exemplifies smooth and sublime storytelling of the finest caliber.

Nina and Sophie’s alternating first-person narratives not only bring the reader up to snuff plotwise, but draw the reader into a mother and daughter’s separate and intertwined emotional vortex.

Nina’s whole life revolves around Sophie. Sophie takes great care not to wound her mother’s fragile ego. When Sophie’s vulnerability takes a hit from a clique of so-called best friends who bully her, life spirals out of control. Nina, a fantasy writer, “literally” pulls out all the stops to help her daughter.

Henceforth, the lines of demarcation between reality and fantasy are blurred to the point of indistinction for Sophie. The reader is swept along a treacherous current.

I highly recommend this work of psychological fiction propelled by dysfunction running amok.
