Dark Fantasy with a Bite

Robert Clark’s ‘Dogsicle’ is a fast-moving, pulsating story in contrast to the part-poodle, part dachshund, not-dead-not-alive Ethlybert, who moves without a care in the world. Other than taking his sweet time to find his original owners, harking to the call of an insatiable appetite, and remaining neutral about things unless antagonized, Ethylbert unwittingly becomes the catalyst for mishap and mayhem.

This well-written, original dark fantasy incorporates scientific plausibility, while effectively nailing social injustices perpetrated by those in the secular and religious sectors. Throughout the novel, my dander was up.

Original and entertaining, the subplots are cohesive, the characters are quirky, and there’s just the right amount of squeamishness when Ethelbert sinks his teeth into a live or dead feed. Highly recommended.
