A Gripping Victorian Tale
Author Lilly Adam excels in conveying the essence of the Victorian era. From the very first page of her tale, the reader is drawn into Emma’s heart-tugging plight. Emma’s plight escalates through a series of unfortunate circumstances befalling her and her beloved children as they wend their way from the countryside of Hazelcroft to the slums of London.
The author seamlessly interweaves cultural aspects of the era which become an integral part of each cohesive subplot. Her visuals enable the reader’s imagination to see and smell the poverty-stricken and squalid streets of London’s East End. The reader feels Emily’s heartbreak through each trial and tribulation.
Ms. Adam has created fully-developed, credible characters. Some of whom are kind, while others are the epitome of loathsome. I highly recommend this well-written, Victorian tale which holds the reader in its grip.
