Author J.S. Burke’s poetic, illustrated fantasy short is insightful. Vivid details convey the interdependence of plants and animals in every biome. The wind’s creation of a narwhal whose gleaming icicle creates living organisms out of snowflakes, brings magic to the story with rhyme and reason.
As Nary, the Narwhal points out, “Our World needs creatures of more than one kind/ From land, sea, and sky, with interesting minds.”
“Narwhal’s Song” has no age limit in its appeal for singing praises of interconnectivity and diversity. The author’s inclusion of instructions for making paper snowflakes adds artistic flair.
