Biting Realism
Author J.S. Frankel excels at hammering the just cause of universal respect. Whether inside the insular, retro community of Merryvale, Idaho where vamps and werewolves reside together in a semblance of harmony. That is, if you discount the prejudice against interspecies relationships, compounded by those of the same gender. Carried too far, with deadly consequences, Joni and Jean bear the brunt of a vile crime, becoming social outcasts.
Or, Boise, Idaho where the Knights of Light, a white supremacist cell are on a mission to annihilate anyone who is different, including Joni and Jean who come under scrutiny while on their turf.
Even after the hate group infiltrates Merryvale where a war of survival ensues, undercurrents of unacceptance for those like Joni and Jean still manifest themselves at every turn.
Once more, Frankel succeeds in composing a well-written story with biting realism, meaty substance, and noble outreach.

In this case he delves into vampires and the like as types of unsavory individuals, especially if they cohabit with what white, God-fearing supremacist people who believe they are the wrong kind of people, and need to be eliminated.
Apparently, paralleling in his novels, the pattern our society is heading with the chasm between those who are open, progressive and liberal to those who are fearful, uptight, angry and violent when it becomes apparent to them that progress has gone too far for them to stomach.
