Spanning 1867 – 1966 in rural Montana on the outskirts of Virginia City, each chapter in author Sharon Mierke’s ‘Old House’ is part of a cohesive whole. From James’ Talbot’s construction of the sturdy house in 1867 to the sanctuary it provides for Shane Quinn, Frank Mitchel, and Maggie Thomas throughout the years, their past eventually catches up to them.
Grounded in realism, courtesy of the author’s infusion of historical accuracy, plausible traumas, and credible characters, one becomes thoroughly invested in each of the story’s chapters. Easy to read without sacrificing depth, ‘Old House’ lingers in your psyche long after the last page has been turned.
