What an intriguing book. The story Zis very detailed in writing style about Solange, our 52-year-old Tarot card reader on a 900 line that works mostly during the midnight hour with a shot of tequila by her side; along with any drug she can obtain. The book is separated into the regular story about Solange and her separate journal entries that she creates wearing her granddaughter’s pink boa using her Hello Kitty magic wand pen – the image alone is very entertaining, especially when you include the following: “an impending hot flash, she put the pen to her chin and waited. The familiar warmth hit her in the solar plexus like a small internal bomb, and the heat radiated out so evenly and quickly it made her gasp. Sweat broke out on her forehead, her chest, her thighs. Within seconds her Victoria’s Secret peach satin nightgown was soaked through. She leaned back on her seven extra-soft pillows and let the changing of her life wash through her” as she struggled to be the best harp player ever. The music was lovely, when she was good but occasionally (more times than not) her fingers would freeze and become numb. No harp player, trained or not, wants this condition. Funny thing to me was the statement “We took out your wrong note, Solange, you know what they say, Fix it in the mix.” That comes in handy, but what got my mind wondering was the comment that “… locked herself in the music room where the lithium was – cocktail hour.” Solange, in her peach colored, pillowed bed, with a peach-colored satin nightgown on. The novel, Midnight Tequila by Suzann Kale was interesting in a couple different ways … I found the book had some excellent writing, however the changes from normal routine to journal were choppy, not an easy flow of transition which was difficult to follow the story with her menopausal harp-playing versus her life apart from her deceased husband. “The problem occurred when the Valium wore off, and her husband was still dead.” I liked parts of Midnight Tequila very much, but the switch from one writing style to another from the storyline to her journal does not slide seamlessly together causing a breakup in the reading which is hard to follow. I found myself re=reading sections to piece together where I was in the story.

For a cracker chomping, milk drinking mama, you seem to have a firm grasp on the wilder side of life where all the action is found. Leaves me to wonder, am I two authors removed from all the action, or am I in Margaritaville swimming with the sharks? Love those painted toes and stilettos...
