With David and Goliath overtones, J.S. Frankel pits a small group of Earthlings against an interstellar enemy. Crash-landing on Xibreen, a world once inhabited by a peace-loving, agrarian society, they are up against the Vorde—indiscriminate, power-hungry invaders. If that’s not bad enough, three of those Earthlings sabotage the group’s endeavors at every turn.
In addition to the harrowing ordeals of squaring off against enemies within and without, Frankel’s Sci-Fi leaves no stone unturned striking chords in the heart of his readers: bullying, fat-shaming, and a deadly, decimating virus on Earth.
Due to the ravages of battle, Nick Sorvas, one of the teen protagonists, must lead the group in their fight for survival. He certainly comes up with primitive, but highly effective weapons to defeat the Vorde during one of their raids.
Highly recommended for the author’s clever, imaginative, and logical sci-fi breakthroughs. The ending leaves the reader something to think about.

I haven't seen the movies, but from the clips it looks like just another Star Wars like vision with lots of action and violence so that earthling viewers with a craving violence and a love for animals who can talk to them mix. Makes for an interesting way to get readers for the novels and viewers for the films.
