Author Darryl Hughes’ Noir Crime Thriller, ‘A Taste for Irma,’ gives the reader a taste of hard-boiled storytelling. It’s 1956 in New York City, and Skye Masterson, owner of The Deadeye Detective Agency becomes embroiled in seeking justice for the murder of a stripper named Irma.
The cast of characters fit the Noir bill. For one, Stella, Skye’s gum-chewing, wisecracking secretary. The gunsels are beefy and bulldoggish. Mobster, Giovanni Casparo is a psychopath. Skye might be cynical, but he has a heart of gold.
The story’s fast-paced plotting, snappy dialogue, and vivid descriptions render ‘A Taste for Irma’ a top-of-the-line crime thriller which I highly recommend.
