Usual "brick wall" time! 2/25/2013 12:14:25 PM
Writer's Block and "The Dark Ages". When I wrote "Baker's Dozen: a Fantasy Novel", I don't think I ever had "writer's block". It took 2 yrs. to write, sure, but that was mostly due to the fact I was typing it, which is an extremely long, drawn-out process for me. After 1 1/2 years of 2-fingered typing, I purchased "Dragon Naturally Speaking" voice-recognition and finished the second half in only 6 months.
With the second book, however, I was into new territory which hadn't been rattling around my head for decades so I did "hit the wall" occasionally. This usually made me somewhat depressed which made it even harder to break out of my writing stagnation. But I was able to still finish it in less than a year.
But ever since I've decided to make my books a 5 novel "saga", I am constantly being side-tracked by ideas for the 4th and 5th novel. There was also a 3 month period when I was in a depressed cycle off my illness, which I'll tell you, I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Heh, actually THOSE cycles are my worst memories, perhaps.
But I've reached page 60 of "The Dark Ages", which based on my usual page count puts me at the 20% completion mark. The next big step will be page 100.
Well, I have a brand new Logitech cordless head-set now, which works admirably. Someday soon (I hope!), I 'll put it on and hammer out that novel!
