Growing up as a young aspiring dancer (even before that when my best friend was my dog, Daffy and my 10-speed), I dreamt of "having it all" without boundaries. My future was certain. I would dance and marry the man of my dreams, raise a bunch of beautiful bouncing babies, become a successful professional dancer and live "happily ever after".
That's not how my life turned out. In fact, all of those things disappeared and my life veered course into unknown territory. There was no chart and I found myself alone at the helm, fighting doldrums and maelstroms back-to-back. I learned about myself however. I found strength in my ability to discern the intent of others, feel their spirit and know exactly what course they were on. Quick-thinking and a cool head became a strong tool I possessed and I learned to utilize it in my career when life and death taunted, family challenges threatened to tear into our loyalty and financial crisis pushed me to the brink of my stability. I chose joy as my companion, faith as my blueprint and prayer/meditation as my mainstay.
Through it all, I have realized, this life is not mine to determine. The path is laid out and my course charted all from before my birth. My role is to stay faithful and let go, leave it in His hands and move forward "Steady as We Go".
I believe we are put on this earth to learn who we were before we were born. I believe in a God who loves each of us and knows us far better than we can know ourselves. I believe that tomorrow will be another day that I will be able to conquer, be joyful and learn a little more about who I really am.
