Death In Iraq & Christ In Afganistan 3/27/2006 8:00:44 AM
Two deeply troubling events in Iraq and Afganistan have me boiling with fury and inexusable sadness. In Afganistan, a man named Abdul Rahman decided to become a Christian. He did so long ago, in the 90's, when he was a relief worker in Pakistan. Because of that sacred and personal decision he has been threatened with death by Muslims in Afganistan.
The same country our young men & women shed (and are still shedding) blood to "liberate" and "democratize".
He is an apostate to these Muslim extremists. The religious clerics have called on other muslims to kill him. Yes, in 2006 a man's belief in God can get him murdered.The religion that condons and even ENCOURAGES slayings of this sort---is the Muslim religion. We don't see this in Cristianity--- in spite of "Christians" like Pat Robertson who regularly speak of assasination and murder, it is the sole, malevolent province of Muslims.
As of this writing Rahman is being held in solitary confinment in a prison "for his own protection." But really, he is being held for TRIAL. This is a lawful prosecution in Afganistan. You can and are given the death penalty for turning your back on the State Religion.
Is this freedom? Is this success in bringing democracy?
We should leave this backward, 15th century country and let it continue to fester in a part of the world that is full of boils, dispicable people, ungaurded fascism. Leave it in its dark age, I say!
Iqaq is breaking my heart, too.
There a man named Mohanned al-Azawi who liked to sprinkle food in his bird cages at his pet shop in southern Bagdad, is now murdered pitilessly.
A few days ago he was grabbed, in broad daylight, kidnapped, later found mutilated, his body dumped in a sewage treatment plant.
He had been hogtied, drilled with power tools and shot.
His crime?
He's a Sunni.
What an easy target. The youngest of five brothers, 27 years old, he lived with his parents. He loved birds since he was a boy. Nightingales were his favorites. Then canaries, pigeons and doves.
He had once been drafted into Suddam Hussein's army, but he deserted. He wished only to open his pet shop in Dawra. He was never interested in politics or religion. He hardly ever even watched television or paid attention to the news.
Who is under the most suspicion for haivng brutaly, savagely, killed this simpe lover of nature? This innocent in a land of murder and hatred?
The militias,--- the ones with the closest ties to the GOVERNMENT that we helped install. You see, they are Shiite.
This case is far from rare. More and more (in one day some 161 individuals) are systematically being kidnapped, tortured and murdered.
Major Gen. Rick Lynch, the current imperialist spokesman for the US Military there, says Shiite militias have played a large role in these abductions and murders and..." the government of Iraq must take action."
But it's the governments' AGENTS that are perpetrating these atrocities. The people there know it. Our military knows it. Our State Department knows it; nothing is being done about it.
Two men. Both the victims of our unleashing a terrible storm in a part of the world that only deserved punishment for its part in 9/11 ( in the case of Afganistan) and ignoring (in the case of Iraq). But the Bushites, the neo-cons, were on a mission to bring democracy to that part of the world.
It's not working.Just ask the familes and friends of Abdul and Mohanned.
