My Friend, Paladin Writes About The Dark Horse Angel.
1/23/2004 11:10:13 AM

I know a wonderfully creative soul in Texas whose Nom de Plume is Paladin. With his permission I'm entering his remarkable poem: "Dark Horse Angel"
Visions in my mind
Angel on Broken Wing
Pretty tragic hero
borne on dark wing-ed horse
modern mythic hero circling

See him circle your cradle
and dive and spiral
and watch and keep you safe
... this inverse valkyrie
climbing the sky
softly ushering you down to earth

His pretty features
run down his cheeks
as the rain washes smile to a frown,
but he's sent here for you
to do what he must do
whatever the cost to his pretty head

His barter is souls
his is gone, heart's been sold
... this pretty celestial soars
he rides out of sight
and with all of his might
screams at evil, bellows, & roars

Javelin descends
from his hand ... lightning sends
the fiery jolt to explode & move
its target the chains
and demons that restrain
you from healing and moving with ease

His powerful bow is bent
with a crack, black arrows sent
to puncture the demonic horde
his eyes grow wide
and the fervor inside
begins to take on a melodic, rythmic hint

Native drum-beats, angelic dissonant choirs
Celtic, haunting harmony swirls
in a chaotic, dissonant, cacophany of song
contrapuntal riffs, Gregorian chants
and the anthems of heroes rise high

He dismounts his horse
steps to the ground
and each blade of grass yields till its bent
The ground barely crushed
the dew barely moved
as this avatar of healing, light stands

He walks through your dreams
and thru the loosely knit seams
of the veil between your sleep & your wake
He's beautiful sadness
and love's ultimate enigma
this mysterious amalgam of dark beauty

But his story of woe
can barely be told
as he still waits in the ethers
for the resounding, triumphant whisper
of his true love come to call once again

He's barely corporeal
all bold sinew and steel
his loose, Irish linen, black tunic open wide
his chest a delicate mesh
of manly fur and soft flesh
the balance of sweet love to the test

His hands so delicate and fine
his features resplendant sublime
and his eyes not quite happy or sad
they hold the woe of unrequited love
and the beauty of its promise to keep

The lines around his eyes
melt with the golden, silvery skies
... he mounts, rides aloft, & evaporates
... morning mist disintegrates
in the warm, morning light
and all's left is the scent of a dream

You see his darkly lined eyes
and your heart for him cries
but a heartbeat away from you lies
You can feel his heart beat
you can feel his soft feet
in his arms, strength, security bind

they hold you so close
his lips whisper words of life
and fall away all mettle & strife
the melee is gone, the battle is won
and the din of it is so far away

His dark woolen cloak keeps you warm
its folds to adorn
your royal finery in a simple love wrap
you smell him inside
the comforting sign
that he's human, your prince at long last

You may choose if you wish
to be carried by his
as the hands lead you in this mystic dance
you are light in the dream
you are lost in the sweet trance
beguiled yet willing partners, a team

Tall black boots are supple and soft
the leather rich, black, and high
his pants tight around the thigh
where the boots reach to tip at their height
his shirt blows in the wind
he carries no arms nor armour with him
his strength & true might within

you are safe now, my love
you may fly like the dove
and rest softly in bed of heather
no longer to have to bear the weather
and any fright or fight is long gone

you sense only peace and love
only one origin--Heaven above
and you may rest at long last,
my sweet girl.

Princess, your prince has arrived,
the prize you've hoped all your life
is now in your grasp at dance end.

He's never left you
only circled above you
to keep you safe from all danger around.
You feel his strength surround
... you skip leaps and bounds
... your little girl is safe, this final act
... the tragedy mask turns a hint up

Rest your weary head,
precious, brave girl
princess, sweet love
priceless rare beauty
crowned fairy queen

All the dried roses come to life
the dark blooms sparkle & fire
as the world turns again as it should.
