Talking to the Dead 8/21/2007 10:32:57 AM
It's raining outside. Not too hot and not too cold. Not a perfect day, but one that has me thinking. And what has been popping into my head during my walks with my dogs in the rain...talking to the dead. Just keeps popping into my head. I used to talk to the dead, family members, strangers, whomever came to mind. None ever spoke back. Just wanted to make that clear. I used to talk to someone else too. But I don't anymore. Stopped a couple of years ago.
Imagine it being late at night. You're in bed, completely awake. Your significant other (in my case my loving, handsome husband) laying next to you asleep. (In my case guardian canines lay at foot of bed as well) You are staring at the ceiling, look to your left and your right, then at foot of bed. All is quiet and calm. Then, fear creeps up your spine. No reason for it. Just there. You want to wake your loved one up, but are frozen in place. Your foot moves slightly, ever so slightly until it reaches a warm little body. You know it's covered with fur. You poke. Nothing. You poke again. Your canine guardian moves out of your reach. You swallow. Turn your head, you think. But your frozen. Yet, you don't know what you are afraid of. It's just there.
The door to the bathroom is open. Get up, you think. Go into bathroom, open light, and it will go away. But you can't move. There's something, no, someone in there. Then, you close your eyes. You just can't take it anymore. Who do you call on? I called on our golden retriever (he died several years ago) to come to me, and he did. Never spoke but I knew he was there. And the fear was lifted from me.
I guess in my own lengthy way I've been trying to say that the dead do speak to us. It's just that they do it in their own way and we hear them in our own way too.
I wonder what I'll think of when the SUN is out.:)
